These last couple of weeks, I have mostly been working on filling in all of the documents to hand in. I've also been working from halls as I didn't want to take up any studio space that I didn't need. I didn't work in the library either because I always feel like I'm being watched and therefore feel less productive.
At this point in time (Tuesday 24th April) I have managed to complete the 500 word critical eval and the 200 word as well as work on some more concept sketches. Which have made me realise that the dragon isn't as colourful as I wanted it to look originially. But I have to bear in mind that it is supposed to have iridescent scales.
Looking back at the project, I really should have printed out or at least made a collage of all the animals that could have been referenced.
After going through some photos that I took at halls, just after I had painted the dragon, I found that the dragon looked great with a foil base. I brought this up with a friend to see what they thought of it and they seemed to have come to the same conclusion, even saying that it looks like it's in its habitat.
So come, Monday 30th April I might cover the base in a layer of foil before sticking the dragon down. Although, it could potentially look pretty tacky.
Overall, I feel like this project has reach a natural end. A natural conclusion, if you will.
And although I may not be happy with it, most of my peers seem to be. I just wish I could start it all over again, maybe change the scales, add lots more detail, not fall into the cliches, etc. But this is an opportunity for me to challenge myself over the summer and create some pieces I am actually proud of.
