After my discussion with Simon on Tuesday, I decided to look up double baking sculpey to see if it would be possible. This is because working with the rest of the sculpey being unbaked is difficult to do without ruining some scales on the other side of it. So multiple bakes would make it easier to work on.
I found out that it made it easier to break. The tail fell off (which was probably becuse the wire wasn't long enough to supprot the end bit). There were also cracks at the joints in the arms and legs. Thankfully those were only easy to see when it was being picked up.
Also in terms of presentation, I had set out to make an oval base, thinking it would look more natural, as this is what the have done at the Natural History Museum in London. (see gallery) However, besides that logic I didn't have much else to back up why I wanted to do that, so I researched into how they have displayed the different creatures at Harry Potter Studio Tour and Exhibition. Through this research I found that most if not all of them were displayed on a white base set on a white plinth behind a glass case.
On wednesday, Dan's suggested using rose thorns for the claws as it natural and already fromed as opposed to using sculpey. But are they the right shape?
