Monday/Tuesday:
Starting this new project is exciting as it can lead to so many possibilities. Because it's a student led project, I have a lot of directions I can take it but I have settled on Biomechanic as the organic and the mechanic rely on eachother, in this case.
For this project I have chosen to do a prop for a movie based on the book series Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. I had intialy began brainstorming ideas for a biomechanic weapon that would be attached to the arm, wether it would be removable or not was still a work in progress. However, from my research into the illustrations from the book, one in particular (image below) caught my eye. More specifically the wings the character has.

Seeing as I've only got 5 weeks to do this project, it wouldn't be feasible for me to read the series, although I will at least finish the first one. For this reason I will have to do some character research to be able to find this specific character to be able to fully understand the context and use for these wings. This should help me determine material, colour and texture for the prop.
But I really like the idea of creating a sort of furturistic weapon for the arm. Granted, it would be difficult to figure out the right materials for the prototype.
I also need to work out (on paper) my planning and time management for the project. I think I'll work on figuring out exactly what I'm going to make before creating anything as this should help me with my experimentation.

Wednesday:
Might stick with arm weapon. Based off of Spandau machine gun (WW1 edition). Started researching into Bucky Barnes as an example, however world war 2 so more tech advances by that time. More research into the sci fi genre and already existing weapons in the scifi universe.

Thursday:
Watched Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and got inspired by the weapons in one scene with the Mul characters. (pictured below- a little blurry b/c they are screenshots from when I watched the movie). These were probably heavily CGI but I plan to incorporate some LED lighting into my sci fi weapon as this will make it easier to emulate the genre.

Friday:
I researched into the types of LED lights I could use but then realised it wouldn't be as important for a movie prop as most movies these days tend to lean towards CGI for this kind of thing. Only using lights for reference points. Although, as this won't be used in a movie just yet, I have decided to incorporate some lights into it to make it easier to picture in context. I have also decided to create some templates on Monday that I will use to cut out of wood as a basis for the handle of the weapon.
