I found it difficult at first to find different ways to record the bottle caps I had brought in as my rubbish, I mean besides the obvious observational drawings in pencil/pen/paint and photos. However, once I really got into it it became a little bit more fun (tracing the outline, leaving 'tracks', crating imprints of the inside of the bottle cap). The latter which led me to create a little characters head that was a mix of a monkey and steampunk (cogs inspired by cider cap).
The week went on and I moved on to spot welding which didn't turn out as expected. The reason for this might have been because I was rushing it and didn't draw out that many plans for the sculpture. I also feel that maybe drawing out measurements would've helped me create a bracelet rather than a pot of some sort. It also didn't help that I didn't stick to the plans I had drawn out.
Thinking back to that week, I could have used my time better as I spent half of the first morning wondering what to do and how else I could record my rubbish as I thought we had to wait till the afternoon to start working with metals (and only metals) This was a misconception on my part as I should've been working with whatever materials I needed to work with but focusing on the use of metal.
I also haven't always kept in mind that I need to create something that either 'fits the body' or 'contains space'.
Next week, I plan to stay after sessions to work on my pieces rather than just going home straight away.
