One of the main opportunities I have found was finding materials that were kind to the environment and that would be strong enough for my design, if it were to actually get built.
Although, one of the main challenges was trying to design something to solve a problem and whittling the ideas down to just one that doesn't exist yet. It was one of the more frustrating aspects as the research led me to find that the ideas already existed in the material world.
In terms of approaching a project, I still think I am still more media oriented, but I am enjoying the design project, as I feel like it relates more to the real world which is an aspect I quite like about the design project.
In terms of skills I have picked up, the research skills have been the most useful.
Finding designers work that relates to my own has helped me understand some of the problems in my own work. This has also helped me develop a more rounded project as I was able to research into sustainable materials, as well as think about dimensions, which I had previously not really thought about. Looking back at my other projects, this has proven to be a consistent issue that I am looking to fix.
I have tried to keep notes, especially those from my peers as I have found that bouncing ideas off of each other can lead to some really interesting ideas. For example on this design project I thought the pod could be for just one person but a fellow classmate suggested why not larger groups of people, which I had not thought of previously, but it seemed like an interesting idea worth exploring.
Next week I could present my work in a way that is appropriate to my product design project, as I am doing research in order to help me with this. In terms of helping me understand how it would be done in the real world. However I have found it quite difficult to find the relevant information.
