Kato has designed and made outfits that have a Neo-Victorian and post-apocalyptic vibe.
Her inspiration at the time (2004) was the 1800s meets Mad Max and Tank Girl comics.
Her designs are influenced by post-apocalyptic and tribal aspects as well as sci-fi, shabby chic and Harajuku/Mori girl elements. One of her more popular outfits, the "Vex" outfit, was named after the model Ulorin Vex.
She has worked as a one woman show illustrating, sewing, and modeling her own designs. Her work goes from couture and costumes to hand made props and accessories to go with her outfits/ensembles.

She is where she is now because she realised that the work she used to do for her first few clients (before her relocation to the US) demanded all of her time and effort. So she turned it into a full time job.
"... the likes of J.Scott Campbell, Jamie Hewlett, Alessandro Barbucci, and Barbara Canepa, to name a few, have inspired the way I look at, think about, and fabricate clothing. I’m forever striving to create chunky, bold, “cartoony” fashions that defies the laws of physics." - Kate 'Kato' Lambert
